Ten Miles Through the Nation's Capital
Each October, runners come together in the Washington, DC area for one of the Army's signature running events. The Army Ten-Miler brings service members, veterans, military families and civilian runners to a course that passes some of the capital region's most recognizable landmarks. Whether you're racing, supporting a runner or making the trip as a team, planning your weekend ahead of time can make race morning a whole lot easier.
Plan Your Race Weekend
Race day may be the main event, but your Army Ten-Miler experience starts before you reach the starting line. Build packet pickup, travel and a little recovery time into your Washington, DC weekend.
Get settled in the DC area and take care of race packet pickup early, leaving more time on Saturday to relax, explore and prepare for race morning.
Saturday is your final opportunity for mandatory packet pickup. Once that's handled, focus on dinner, hydration, your race gear and an early night before ten miles.
Head toward the Pentagon early for the 42nd Annual Army Ten-Miler, then return to your hotel to recharge before enjoying the rest of your Washington weekend.

Before Race Day
Runners should make packet pickup part of their travel plans before race morning. The 2026 Army Ten-Miler Expo and packet pickup take place Friday and Saturday at The St. James in Springfield, Virginia.
If you're arriving in Washington on Friday or Saturday, allow enough time to reach Springfield, collect your materials and return without making the night before the race feel rushed.
Runner Tip: There is no race-day packet pickup, so don't leave this part of your race plan until Sunday morning.
Race Morning
Ten miles is enough work for one morning. Make getting to the starting area the easy part by planning your transportation before race day and allowing plenty of time to reach the Pentagon.
Thousands of runners, spectators and volunteers converge on the Pentagon area for the Army Ten-Miler, making an early start to your morning especially important.
Have your race gear ready the night before, know how you plan to reach the start area and leave extra time for crowds, security procedures and walking to your designated starting area.
Race-day parking is not available at the Pentagon. Plan another transportation option before Sunday morning rather than arriving in the area expecting to find a place to park.
Public transportation can help runners avoid road closures and parking challenges around the race area. Check current race-day transit information and operating schedules as your trip approaches.
Don't plan your arrival around the starting gun. Allow time to reach the Pentagon area, navigate the race grounds, handle pre-race necessities and get into position before your wave begins.
Transportation procedures, road closures and transit schedules can change. Check the official Army Ten-Miler race information before leaving your hotel for the most current race-day instructions.
